Trek Overview

The Ama Yangri trail running route is a high-altitude mountain run in the Helambu region, centered around Ama Yangri (3,771 m). Starting from nearby Kathmandu, the trail climbs steep Shivapuri National Park forest paths and ridgelines to the summit, offering stunning views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges.

It’s a challenging but rewarding route with a mix of steep climbs, alpine terrain, and fast descents through traditional villages, making it a popular training and race-style trail close to Kathmandu.

Important Details

Accommodation

Accommodation on the Ama Yangri is mainly basic teahouses and mountain lodges, offering simple rooms, warm meals, and a local Himalayan atmosphere throughout the trail. Facilities become more limited at higher elevations, adding to the raw and remote adventure experience.

Food

Food on the Ama Yangri is simple, warm, and energy-rich—mostly dal bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables), noodles, soups, potatoes, eggs, and Tibetan-style bread. Meals are designed to fuel long trekking and fastpacking days, with limited variety at higher altitudes but plenty of fresh, hot food at teahouses along the route.

Water

On the Ama Yangri, use water purification tablets or a filter as the best option. Mineral water is available only in lower areas and is more expensive higher up, so purification is safer, cheaper, and more reliable for the whole route.

Toilet

Toilets on the Ama Yangri are mostly basic squat-style or simple pit toilets in teahouses and villages. Facilities get more limited and rustic at higher altitudes, so carrying toilet paper and hand sanitizer is essential for the trek.

Health protection

Health protection on the Annapurna Circuit is all about altitude awareness, hygiene, and proper pacing. Acclimatise well, stay hydrated, and avoid rushing ascent to reduce the risk of AMS (altitude sickness). Eat hot, cooked food, maintain hand hygiene, and carry a basic medical kit. Protect against cold with proper layering, and listen to your body—early response to symptoms is key in remote mountain conditions.

Acclimatisation

Ama Yangri trip was also a great acclimatisation journey through Mangengoth and Thadepati, helping the body adapt to higher altitude while enjoying peaceful trails, mountain views, and the beautiful Himalayan atmosphere along the way.

Heli-Evac

Heli-evacuation in case of emergency will be arranged based on the situation and as per the plan.

Sat - Comms

Communication is available in most locations along the route, allowing contact with our base in Kathmandu, though the signal may be limited or unstable in higher and remote sections.
