Trek Overview

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most spectacular and rewarding trekking adventures, offering an unforgettable journey around the world's eighth-highest mountain, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). Nestled within the pristine Manaslu Conservation Area, this remote Himalayan trail combines breathtaking mountain scenery, rich cultural heritage, and authentic wilderness experiences.

Unlike the more crowded Everest and Annapurna regions, the Manaslu Circuit remains relatively untouched, attracting only a small percentage of trekkers visiting Nepal each year. This makes it an ideal choice for travelers seeking solitude, authentic local culture, and unspoiled natural beauty.

The trek passes through dramatic river gorges, terraced farmlands, dense forests of rhododendron and pine, alpine meadows, and high mountain landscapes. Along the way, trekkers encounter traditional villages inhabited by Gurung, Nubri, and Tibetan-influenced communities whose lifestyles and customs have remained largely unchanged for centuries.

One of the major highlights of the journey is crossing the magnificent Larkya La Pass (5,106m), one of Nepal's most scenic high mountain passes. From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of Manaslu, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, Annapurna II, and numerous snow-capped peaks stretching across the horizon.

The Manaslu region is also renowned for its biodiversity. The conservation area is home to Himalayan Tahr, Blue Sheep, Pika, Marmots, and even the elusive Snow Leopard. Throughout the trek, you'll experience warm local hospitality, delicious organic mountain cuisine, ancient monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, and stunning Himalayan landscapes.

Due to its location within a restricted region of Nepal, the Manaslu Circuit Trek requires a special trekking permit and must be undertaken with a licensed guide and a minimum of two trekkers. These regulations have helped preserve the area's unique cultural and natural heritage, making it one of the most authentic trekking destinations in the Himalayas.

Whether you are an experienced trekker looking for a new challenge or an adventure enthusiast seeking an off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience, the Manaslu Circuit Trek offers an extraordinary combination of adventure, culture, and natural beauty that rivals any trek in Nepal

Important Details

Accommodation

Accommodation on the Manaslu Circuit Trek consists primarily of basic teahouses and mountain lodges, providing simple twin-sharing rooms, hearty meals, and an authentic Himalayan experience along the trail. As you ascend to higher elevations, facilities become more limited and rustic, offering trekkers a genuine sense of remoteness and adventure in one of Nepal's most untouched mountain regions.

Food

Food on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is simple, nutritious, and designed to provide the energy needed for long days on the trail. Teahouses serve a variety of meals, with dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables) being the most popular and reliable option. Other common dishes include noodles, fried rice, soups, potatoes, eggs, pasta, momos, and traditional Tibetan bread. While menu choices become more limited at higher elevations due to the remote location, trekkers can still enjoy fresh, hot, and filling meals throughout the journey. The combination of hearty food and warm hospitality is an essential part of the Manaslu trekking experience.

Water

On the Manaslu Circuit Trek, the best way to stay hydrated is to use water purification tablets, a water filter, or a UV purification device. Safe drinking water is available at teahouses and water stations along the route, but it should always be treated before consumption. Bottled mineral water is available in some lower villages; however, it becomes increasingly expensive and less common at higher elevations. Using a purification method is a safer, more cost-effective, and environmentally friendly option throughout the trek.

Toilet

Toilets on the Manaslu Circuit Trek are generally basic, with most teahouses offering either squat-style or simple Western-style toilets. As you gain elevation, facilities become more limited and rustic, and shared toilets are common. Hot water and modern bathroom amenities may not always be available, especially in remote villages. Trekkers are advised to carry their own toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and personal hygiene supplies to ensure comfort throughout the journey.

Health protection

Health and safety on the Manaslu Circuit Trek depend on proper acclimatization, good hygiene, and a steady trekking pace. Since the trail reaches an altitude of 5,106m at Larke Pass, it is important to ascend gradually, stay well hydrated, and allow sufficient time for acclimatization to minimize the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Trekkers should eat freshly prepared, hot meals, maintain good hand hygiene, and carry a basic first-aid kit with personal medications. Proper layering and quality cold-weather gear are essential for protecting against low temperatures and changing mountain conditions. Always pay attention to your body's signals, and if symptoms of altitude sickness develop, respond promptly by resting, descending if necessary, and seeking assistance. In this remote Himalayan region, prevention and early action are the keys to a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.

Acclimatization

Acclimatisation in the Manaslu Circuit helps the body gradually adapt to high altitude through steady elevation gain, rest, and short hikes, improving recovery and preparation for crossing Larkya La Pass safely and strongly.

Heli-Evac

Heli-evacuation in case of emergency will be arranged based on the situation and as per the plan.

Sat - Comms

Communication is available in most locations along the route, allowing contact with our base in Kathmandu, though the signal may be limited or unstable in higher and remote sections.
