Accommodation

Unlike camping expeditions, most trekking routes in Nepal operate on a traditional teahouse trekking system. Accommodation is provided in locally owned mountain lodges and teahouses along the trail. These establishments are located in remote Himalayan villages and offer simple, comfortable lodging rather than the luxury standards found in city hotels. Due to the challenges of transporting supplies into the mountains, food and accommodation costs are generally higher than in Kathmandu or Pokhara. During peak trekking seasons, service may also take longer because of the high number of visitors.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for all participants joining the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Although this trek is considered moderately challenging, it involves trekking at high altitude where there is a risk of altitude sickness, unpredictable weather conditions, injuries, and other unforeseen circumstances. All trekkers are required to provide a copy of a comprehensive travel insurance policy before the start of the trek. The insurance policy must cover: Emergency medical treatment and hospitalization High-altitude trekking up to 4,130 meters (13,550 ft) at Annapurna Base Camp Emergency helicopter rescue and evacuation Medical repatriation and transportation costs Accidental injury and related emergency expenses

Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of your guide, porters, and support crew throughout the trek. In Nepalese culture, tipping is a common way of saying “Dhanyabad” (Thank You) for excellent service. Tips are usually given at the end of the trek and are often collected and presented as a group contribution. The amount is entirely at your discretion and should reflect your satisfaction with the service provided. Lead Guide: USD 150 above Assistant Guide: USD 100 above Porters (shared among porters): USD 75$ and above Note: there is no limit for happiness that you can share to thank their hard work.

Prevention from Mountain sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can affect anyone trekking at high altitude, regardless of age or fitness level. It occurs when the body does not have enough time to adjust to lower oxygen levels at higher elevations. To reduce the risk of AMS: Ascend gradually and avoid gaining altitude too quickly. Walk at a comfortable pace and avoid overexertion. Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Get enough rest and listen to your body. Avoid alcohol and smoking during the trek. Allow proper acclimatization days on longer high-altitude treks. Inform your guide immediately if you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, or shortness of breath. In severe cases, AMS can develop into High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High-Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), both of which require immediate descent and medical attention. At Trailmandu Nepal, our experienced guides are trained to recognize altitude-related illnesses and prioritize your safety throughout the trek.

Drinking Water

Safe drinking water is available throughout the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek. Trekkers can purchase boiled water, filtered water, or bottled water at teahouses along the route. However, to reduce plastic waste and support sustainable tourism, Trailmandu Nepal recommends carrying a reusable water bottle or hydration bladder.
